Forced Marriage

Forced marriage is a marriage without the consent of at least one party and is happening in roughly 56 different countries. Currently, there are limited protections for individuals fleeing forced marriage in the United States, and protections vary from state to state. If a minor is threatened with or subjected to forced marriage, state child protection laws may apply, but often child protection authorities are unsure of what action is best for the individual at risk or deem the proposed marriage as outside the definition of abuse and neglect.

I am standing alongside the Tahirih Justice Center who is fighting to end child and forced marriage in the United States and working to secure protection for survivors of forced marriage seeking asylum in the United States.

Asylum

*What is asylum?*

Asylum is a legal pathway to immigration status for people in the United States or at its borders who fear persecution in their country of citizenship. The legal right to seek asylum was created under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 and expanded upon in a 1951 treaty known as the Refugee Convention.

A refugee, according to the Convention, is someone who is unable or unwilling to return to their country of origin because of a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion.

Join me alongside the Tahirih Justice Center fighting for protection for survivors of violence seeking asylum in the United States.

Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting

An estimated *3 million women and girls* are at risk of undergoing female genital mutilation every year. I am using my voice to bring awareness to the violence and human rights abuses faced by women and girls around the world. I hope you will stand with me. #SocialMediaAmbassador #Advocate

Domestic Violence

Domestic violence affects all communities regardless of race, class or gender and is a prevalent issue that impacts millions. That is why I am using my voice to advocate for justice and equity for survivors.

The Tahirih Justice Center is a national nonprofit committed to serving immigrant survivors of violence. They work to create a more equitable and just world. I hope you will join me in standing alongside them in the fight for justice.

Gender-Based Violence

LGBTQIA+ immigrants are more vulnerable to discrimination and violence.

Survivors of gender-based violence have a right to seek safety through the asylum process. The Tahirih Justice Center is a legal nonprofit that works toward fighting against immigration policies that discriminate against sexual orientation and gender identity. I am using my voice to support Tahirih’s mission of uplifting survivor’s voices. #SocialMediaAmbassador #Asylum #Advocacy

Seeking Asylum is Legal

When asylum seekers come to the U.S., they are faced with incredible obstacles, including language barriers, lack of resources, and a complex immigration system. All have a right to seek protection under existing U.S. laws. I stand alongside immigrant survivors of violence who are fleeing persecution and seeking safety.
