In recent years, we’ve seen mounting racist & xenophobic policies splinter away at #asylum protections. Now, proposed new regulations make it nearly impossible to seek asylum. Tell the government TODAY that you oppose the new asylum regulations: https://www.tahirih.org/action_alerts/save-asylum/

The international community created #asylum as a pathway to safety for those who are experiencing violence due to their identity. Now, gender-based asylum is under attack.

Gender-based violence is both a cause & consequence of gender inequality. The majority of victims of #GBV are women but anyone living outside of their community’s cultural norms related to sex, gender & power can be subjected GBV. Tahirih.org/StandWithSurvivors #SaveAsylum

After the Holocaust, governments recognized that people should not experience violence due to a central part of their identity. The international community then created #asylum as a pathway to safety. Now it is under attack. We MUST #StandWithSurvivors. Tahirih.org/StandWithSurvivors

#ASYLUM IS UNDER ATTACK. The government must review ALL individual comments submitted on the proposed regulations. I submitted my comment to let the government know that I stand AGAINST their attacks on asylum & I #StandWithSurvivors. Join me! #SaveAsylum https://www.tahirih.org/action_alerts/save-asylum/

Gender is a fundamental part of our identity. No one should experience violence because of it. And if they do, they have a right to seek safety.

The international community created asylum as a pathway to safety for those who are experiencing violence due to a central part of their identity. Now, gender-based asylum is under attack. This proposed rule will shut the door completely to safety and be a death sentence for people fleeing for their lives.

We MUST act now. Visit tahirih.org/StandWithSurvivors to #SaveAsylum and #StandWithSurvivors

Individuals fleeing gender-based violence deserve access to safety.

We’ve made progress since the creation of asylum guidelines in 1951, but that is all under threat.

The legal protections that exist have been increasingly under attack. And now, the administration is attempting to close the door to safety completely for individuals fleeing gender-based violence. We must act now to #SaveAsylum.

When someone takes a life-threatening journey to escape systemic fear, violence, and lack of protection in their home country, we must treat them with care and respect.

Following the horrors of the Holocaust, governments around the world recognized that people should not experience violence due to a central part of their identity. The international community then created asylum as a pathway to safety.

Now, asylum is under attack in the United States. The administration proposed new regulations that would make it nearly impossible to obtain protection in the U.S., including for survivors of gender-based violence. Women fleeing rape and severe domestic violence, LGBTQIA+ individuals facing deadly attacks, and those escaping other fatal gender-based harms will no longer be allowed to seek safety within U.S. borders.

We must act now. Join me by visiting Tahirih.org/StandWithSurvivors to #SaveAsylum and #StandWithSurvivors

*What is gender-based violence?*

Gender inequality is pervasive around the world, and violence is both a cause and consequence of this inequality.

Gender-based violence may include female genital mutilation/cutting, intimate partner violence,
“honor” violence, sexual assault and rape, forced marriage, and human trafficking. While the majority of victims of gender-based violence are women, any person who lives outside of their community’s deeply-rooted beliefs and cultural norms related to sex, gender, and power can be subjected to gender-based violence.

Over the past few years, we’ve seen mounting racist and xenophobic policies strip away asylum protections. Now, the administration has proposed new regulations that would make it nearly impossible to obtain protection in the U.S., including for survivors of gender-based violence.

For the next month, the government must review ALL unique, individual comments submitted on the proposed regulations.
