Estate and Planned Giving

Leave a legacy of justice for women and girls. By including Tahirih Justice Center in your estate plans, you can continue to have an impact on our future.

Help ensure the long-term sustainability and goals of Tahirih Justice Center through planned gifts such as bequests, policy or account beneficiary, or charitable trust. No matter the amount, your legacy will sustain Tahirih’s groundbreaking work for years to come.

Bequests

Bequests are one of the simplest and most popular methods of gift planning. It’s easy for you to support Tahirih through a provision in your will:

Specific Bequests

    • Designate in your will a specific asset or amount of money you wish to leave.

Residual Bequests
Designate in your will a percentage of the remaining value of your estate after all specific bequests have been made.

Both types of Bequests can be made using the following language: “I give and bequeath [asset description/cash amount] to Tahirih Justice Center, for its general charitable purposes.” You may make a bequest to Tahirih by preparing a new will or simply by adding a codicil to your current will.

Account or Policy Beneficiary

Make Tahirih a beneficiary of your retirement account or life insurance policy:

Your retirement plan account (e.g.: IRA, § 401(k) or § 403(b) account) can pass directly to Tahirih as your primary beneficiary, or it can be transferred to another entity that will pay income for life to someone you choose, after which the remaining assets can pass to Tahirih.

You may also make an outright gift of life insurance to Tahirih. You may purchase an insurance policy with Tahirih as the owner and sole beneficiary, or make Tahirih the beneficiary or owner of an existing policy you no longer need.

Charitable Trusts

A charitable trust is another vehicle that can be utilized to pass money to Tahirih. By establishing a Charitable Trust, you can receive tax benefits immediately. Charitable trusts can principally be in two forms:

Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT)

    • With a Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT), your assets are signed over to Tahirih after a period of time that you select. Once the agreed-upon period of time is over, the assets (and any interest generated) become the property of Tahirih Justice Center.

Charitable Lead Trust (CLT)
A Charitable Lead Trust (CLT) is the mirror image to a Remainder Trust. You retain control over the assets. Any interest that the assets generate either comes to Tahirih Justice Center or, alternately, is split between Tahirih and any other beneficiaries you identify. When the trust expires, control is given to someone of your choosing, usually your heirs or beneficiaries.

To establish a trust, please consult a tax or trust and estate attorney.

The mission of Tahirih Justice Center is one that will last many lifetimes. You have demonstrated you are with us, fighting injustice wherever we can. Take the next step. Continue to fight for those who need it most. Planned giving to Tahirih is an incredible way to ensure the success of Tahirih for generations to come.
