On International Women’s Day, Tahirih and over 560 national, state, and local organizations submitted a letter to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to express concern that the Administration’s executive orders on immigration and the subsequent DHS implementation memos undermine public safety by reducing the likelihood that immigrant victims and witnesses will report crimes; contravening existing protections afforded by law to immigrant victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and trafficking; empowering traffickers and abusers; and creating unprecedented fear for immigrant families and communities.
Tahirih submitted this written testimony to the Connecticut General Assembly in support of HB 5442, a bill to eliminate exceptions to age 18 as the minimum legal age to marry.
