Staff Demographics

Inclusion is indispensable to our ability to serve our clients. Tahirih celebrates and honors people’s diverse identities, and we are committed to ending racism and White supremacy in all its forms — including within our organization. Most of our leadership, staff, and Board of Directors identify as Black, Indigenous, or people of color (BIPOC) and the majority identify as women or non-binary. Nearly half identify as survivors of or witnesses to gender-based violence.

A 2019 survey of nonprofit staff from across the United States provided a benchmark for assessing our staff diversity. Compared to other nonprofits, Tahirih staff includes a larger proportion of individuals who identify as Asian, multi-racial, or Hispanic, Latin American, or Spanish, as well as a higher percentage of staff who are immigrants or the children of immigrants.

There is always room for improvement and learning, but we are proud to offer a look at our organizational diversity.

Many people worked on my case. The attorneys were incredible, they supported me. Sometimes it was difficult for me to remember what I lived through; they always understood me. I always felt the empathy and good things from Tahirih. Tahirih helped me restore my self-confidence to be able to move on with my life.
