PBS NewsHour highlighted forced marriage in the United States in an in-depth two-part series.

Part 1 features Tahirih client Nina, and Part 2 features clients Lina and Jada, with spotlights on their stories of survival.

Casey Swegman, Tahirih Justice Center’s Forced Marriage Initiative Project Manager, spoke with PBS about Tahirih’s work to combat the issue of forced marriage in the U.S.

“When a women’s only choice, only option for getting to safety is to capitulate to rape, into a forced marriage, that is a failure of the entire system,” Casey says.
