The Guardian’s Sam Levin reports that the Department of Homeland Security’s new online database, VINE, includes confidential information on victims of crimes, including protected survivors of gender-based violence. The Tahirih Justice Center’s Chief of Policy and Programs, Archi Pyati, spoke with Levin about this violation of federal statute.

“It has certainly put a very powerful tool in the hands of abusers,” said Pyati. “Federal law says you’re not allowed to do this.”
