Tahirih is excited to announce the release of a new HBO documentary featuring Tahirih Atlanta client, Vilma Carrillo, and her daughter Yeisvi.

On Thursday, October 10, HBO will release Torn Apart: Separated at the Border, a documentary highlighting Vilma’s journey reunite with Yeisvi after being separated during the family separation crisis at the southern border in 2018. The film is directed by Oscar-winner Ellen Goosenberg Kent and features Tahirih Atlanta Executive Director, Shana Tabak.

Last year, Tahirih fought for Vilma’s release and her reunion with Yeisvi through advocacy, litigation, and media outreach, which resulted in coverage in prominent outlets, including The New York Times, CNN, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Though Vilma and Yeisvi were finally reunited after 246 days apart, they continue to be represented by Tahirih as they seek protection from violence here in the United States.

Torn Apart will be released and available for streaming on HBO on Thursday, October 10, 9:00 p.m. EST.
