NBC News covered Tahirih’s newest lawsuit that was filed, which challenges the administration’s “safe third country” rule. Under the rule, asylum seekers are being sent to the Northern Triangle countries to seek asylum, where their safety cannot be guaranteed.

Richard Caldarone, Tahirih Litigation Counsel, commented:

The rule makes a mockery of our national obligation not to return asylum seekers to violence and persecution…The rule allows the government to deport asylum seekers who have left everything behind in search of safety — including women fleeing rape and severe domestic violence and families fleeing persecution…even if they have no ties to that country and are in serious danger there
