The Guardian featured an HBO documentary released in October called, Torn Apart: Separated at the Border, recounting the stories of two mothers being separated during the family separation crisis at the southern border in 2018. Tahirih client Vilma Carrillo’s journey was highlighted and her story of reuniting with her daughter, Yeisvi. Shana Tabak, Tahirih Atlanta Executive Director, commented:

“[The government separated families with] really no plan for how to reunite them ever again. And so it was really left up to legal services, non-profits, and social service agencies to put the pieces back together of these families that the government had broken up.”
