The Tahirih Justice Center and other partners are joined by 31 other local, state, and national nonprofit organizations who serve and advocate on behalf of immigrant survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking in various ways, in submitting an amicus brief to the Fourth Circuit in CASA Inc., et al v. Trump, et al. They are deeply concerned that Executive Order 14160 (“the EO”), which would eliminate birthright citizenship, poses a grave danger to immigrant mothers who survive domestic violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking, by forcing them to re-engage with their U.S. Citizen (“USC”) or Lawful Permanent Resident (“LPR”) abuser, assailant, or trafficker to obtain documentation to establish that their U.S-born child has U.S. citizenship.

I came to the U.S. in the winter of 2006. Life back home in Mexico was tough for me and my family. I dreamt of going to college and graduating but with my family’s economic status, that dream was too costly and impossible.
