During the 2024-25 legislative session in Georgia, numerous bills were introduced that posed serious threats to immigrant survivors of violence, as well as to the broader immigrant community. These proposed measures would have created additional barriers to safety, justice, and support for individuals already facing immense challenges. In response, we were honored to stand in solidarity with our coalition partners, advocacy organizations, and impacted community members to speak out against these harmful policies. Together, we engaged directly with lawmakers, and mobilized advocates to ensure these bills did not advance.

In addition to opposing these threats, we took proactive steps to educate legislators on the need for survivor-centered policies—ones that uphold the dignity and rights of all survivors, regardless of their immigration status. We are especially proud to support the introduction of House Resolution 756, which affirms this vision by encouraging the Georgia General Assembly to prioritize inclusive, trauma-informed public safety policies. This resolution encourages the General Assembly to “preserve access to safety and justice for all survivors of gender-based violence and human trafficking by adopting language that ensures protection for immigrant survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other crimes to safely report to and assist law enforcement, and to prevent the assistance from law enforcement from being used as a tool of control and abuse; and for other purposes.”

H.R. 756 received bipartisan support and was assigned to a committee at the end of session. We look forward to advocating for its continued advancement in 2026.
