Tahirih is excited to announce that it is offering an innovative training series for service providers working with immigrant survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in the greater Washington, DC area, thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.

The training series is possible through a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women. Funding for the training has been awarded from the department’s Grants to Enhance Culturally and Linguistically Specific Services for Victims of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault and Stalking Program. The program provides critical funds to support innovative culturally and linguistically specific strategies and projects across America.

Tahirih first received funding through the program in 2009.

Now, with its partners in the Culturally and Linguistically Specific Services (CLSS) Coalition—Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS), The Women’s Center, and Peaceful Families Project—Tahirih will provide a critically important series of free trainings, “Working with Survivors of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault within Immigrant Communities.” Based on self-identified training needs in the local community, the training series is designed to equip professionals from a variety of fields with the tools they need to provide trauma-informed, culturally competent services to women and girls in desperate need of help.

As a member of the justice department program’s second-ever class of grantees, Tahirih is honored to work alongside other dedicated advocates to build a country in which abused women and girls have access to services that affirm their culture and effectively address their language and communication barriers.
