Dear Friends,

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. Communities across the country came together to march against this horrific crime and confront the racism that Black people and communities face each day. Derek Chauvin was found guilty on charges of murder and manslaughter and sentenced to more than 20 years in prison. There was a global outcry and call for change. Can you believe that was five years ago?

Now, the fight for justice, safety, and equality continues. Black Americans are still disproportionately impacted by police violence and lives have been lost. Casey Goodson Jr., Andre Hill, Daunte Wright, Amir Locke, Donovan Lewis, Tyree Nichols, Roger Fortson, and Sonja Massey are just some of the names we must say to honor their lives and recognize the injustice in their deaths.

At Tahirih, we continue to fight for policies that recognize everyone’s right to safety. Inequitable treatment in our communities must end. I know you agree. Let’s keep our eyes on that horizon and stay bold in our vision and strong in our voices. We have much more work to do.

In solidarity,

Archi
