The Tahirih Justice Center issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision on September 29, 2026, to allow DHS to proceed with its third-country removals policy while the lawsuit (DHS v. D.V.D.) moves forward:
“Being deported to a country you have never been to, where you may not speak the language or know anyone, is cruel. For immigrant survivors of domestic and sexual violence who come to the United States seeking safety after experiencing horrific violence, being sent instead to another country where they could face more violence or abuse is unconscionable.
The Supreme Court’s ruling earlier this week on third-country removals does not decide whether this policy is legal. But for now, it does allow the government to continue quickly deporting people to other countries without giving them a real chance to explain why they may be in danger there.
Immigrant survivors deserve dignity, due process, and the chance to be heard—not to be uprooted again and sent into the unknown. Tahirih will continue to stand with immigrant survivors and fight for their safety and human rights.”
