Dear Friends,
Reading the news these days, it’s reasonable to feel helpless.
Thankfully the incredible staff at Tahirih are taking action. Immigrant survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, and forced marriage are facing heightened fear and barriers to safety, so this past month alone, Tahirih staff:
- Answered increased calls for information, safety planning, and referrals from across the country
- Prepared clients for hearings, drafted legal papers to stop unlawful deportations, and reframed arguments to meet a changing legal landscape
- Supported clients as they sought housing, food, and counseling despite a shrinking safety net
- Advocated for all of our safety in DC and across the country
- Drafted written testimony in support of data privacy and other humane policies supporting immigrant survivors
- Talked with national news outlets about the impacts of ongoing litigation
- Continued to navigate threats to our funding and ability to continue our work
I’m so proud of the staff, volunteers, and interns at Tahirih who are working hard to make this country a place where all of us can live in safety. We know that every action we take is part of a larger fight for justice, guided by our shared humanity, and it’s our honor to be part of it.
In solidarity,
Archi
