Houston Program Highlights

  • Legal Services

We provide free legal services in immigration law and other areas to help our clients rebuild their lives in safety and with dignity in the wake of violence. Tahirih’s legal representation focuses mostly on five different types of immigration relief, that have been written into federal law, and some which have been expanded or modified by legislative amendments or case law.

  • Social Services

Using a client-centered, trauma-informed approach, we provide critical in-house services, community referrals, and assistance navigating and accessing complicated systems so that clients can achieve long-term stability for themselves and their families.

  • Local Policy and Advocacy

We work to transform local and state policies and practices and to help shape public perception by advocating for systemic change — that impacts immigrant survivors of gender-based violence through creative advocacy projects and strategic campaigns. We are committed to addressing interpersonal violence within the larger context of institutionalized violence and oppression that impacts our communities by building collective power among survivors, advocates, and allies.

  • Training and Education

We educate attorneys, judges, members of law enforcement, first responders and others to enable a community to better respond to the unique needs of immigrants fleeing gender-based violence. We provide necessary cultural competency training to ensure that interactions with our clients recognize and respect diverse values, beliefs, behaviors, and linguistic needs.
