  • Pro Bono Network Webinar: Policy Updates & Trauma Informed Interviewing Tips, February 24, 2021

    Our goal at the Tahirih Justice Center is to train and educate you with the knowledge and skills to effectively fight alongside immigrant survivors. We seek to build on prior webinar trainings and knowledge to assist you in providing trauma-informed access to safety and justice for your clients.

     

    This month, we will build on last year’s “Strategies for Declaration Drafting” webinar and dive deeper into trauma-informed interviewing skills for clients during a pandemic. We will provide you with insight on how trauma can impact a survivor of violence and practical interviewing tips to utilize when working with a survivor of violence.

  • Tahirih Pro Bono Network Webinar: Policy Updates & The Nuts and Bolts of the Battered Spouse Waiver, June 16, 2021

    For our June Pro Bono webinar, we are excited to present key information to assist you in handling Battered Spouse Waiver cases.

     

    You will have the opportunity to learn:

     

    • Best practices for approaching Battered Spouse Waiver cases
    • How to help lawful permanent resident survivors of violence remove conditions on their green cards without having to rely on the abusive spouse in the immigration process

     

    Battered Spouse Waiver cases are included in our Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) caseload, and we want to prepare our pro bono partners with the information and skills needed to successfully handle these types of cases.

    Anusce Sanai, a supervising attorney in our Greater DC ─ Baltimore Regional office, will lead the webinar and you will also hear from Richard Calderone, Tahirih Litigation Counsel about policy and litigation updates.

  • Tahirih Pro Bono Network Webinar Policy Updates & Intermediate Issues in T -Visa Applications, Aug. 18, 2021

    This month our August Pro Bono webinar digs deeper on issues in T visas with a webinar that builds upon our March 2020 presentation on T visa Nuts and Bolts. As we continue to see Requests for Evidence issued on nuanced aspects of the T visa filing, we want to equip you with practice pointers on intermediate issues such as:

     

    • The “present on account of” element;
    • Distinctions between trafficking and domestic violence relationships that followed; and
    • Present danger of retaliation for derivatives.

     

    As this is an intermediate webinar, we will not cover basic elements of the T visa. Sasha Bershad, a supervising attorney in our Greater DC ─ Baltimore Regional office, will lead the webinar and you will also hear from Richard Calderone, Tahirih Litigation Counsel, about policy and litigation updates.

  • Policy Briefing_Immigration Actions by the New Administration

    Join Tahirih’s Co-Directors of Client Advocacy Adilene Nunez-Huang and Adriana Lopez. Presenters will  begin discussion with an overview of the Newest Administration’s latest immigration actions and discuss how they impact Tahirih’s clients and our casework.

    Then at the 35:45 mark, the panel Tahirih’s Chief of Policy and Communications, Archi Pyati, will be reflecting on the number of executive orders and memos issued by the latest administration how it has significantly shifted the landscape for immigrant survivors seeking safety in the United States. Archi will be concluding presentation by identifying Tahirih’s priorities and expectations.

  • January 2021 Tahirih Pro Bono Network Webinar: Policy Updates at the Start of 2021

    Join Tahirih’s Litigation Counsel Richard Caldarone for breaking updates on immigration law and policy, and relevant agency updates related to the Covid-19 pandemic. Then will move on to Substantive Legal Updates discussing the last two immigration regulations issued by the Trump administration. Litigation Counsel will turn to the new immigration and asylum executive orders signed by the new administration. Lastly, will be discussing what should we expect from the new administration. Ending with policy memos and sub-regulatory changes on both EOIR and DHS.
