    As a member of the National Task Force to End Sexual and Domestic Violence, the Tahirih Justice Center joined colleague organizations in opposing the Trump Administration’s immigration priorities for Congress, as announced on October 8, 2017. Congress should reject the White House’s proposals that would roll back decades of work to establish protections for survivors of violence.

    The Tahirih Justice Center and partner organizations filed an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court arguing against the Executive Order banning refugees and citizens of six majority-Muslim countries from entering the United States. This brief highlights the Order’s devastating impact on immigrant women and girls seeking safety. The law firm of Crowell & Moring LLP led the drafting.

  • Falling Through the Cracks: How Laws Allow Child Marriage to Happen in Today’s America

    This Tahirih Justice Center report (originally published in August 2017) is the first comprehensive analysis of provisions in all 50 states and Washington, DC that leave children more vulnerable to forced marriage and the harms of early marriage. The report provides state lawmakers and advocates in the United States with the information they need to pass laws that more effectively protect children from the harms of child marriage.

    The report’s fundamental examination of common exceptions to minimum marriage age laws remains pertinent, but a number of states have passed at least some reforms in this interim.   • Amicus Brief Filed in Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals Human Trafficking Case

    The Tahirih Justice Center, along with Human Trafficking Pro Bono Legal Center, ASISTA Immigration Assistance, Freedom Network USA, and Sanctuary for Families, filed an amicus brief in the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

    This brief supports a group of civil immigrant detainees in their case against GEO Group Inc., a for-profit detention facility, that forced the plaintiffs to work without pay.  The brief focuses on the protection the plaintiffs are entitled to under Trafficking Victims Protection Act.
