    In October 2017, the Tahirih Justice Center issued a nationwide survey asking immigration advocates, immigrant women, and legal and social service providers what they see as the most urgent systemic challenges facing immigrant women and girls.     The Tahirih Justice Center, ASISTA, Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence, and Casa de Esperanza: National Latin@ Network issued this joint statement in response to a misleading new Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice report that uses inaccurate data to portray immigrants as a unique and distinct threat to public safety.

    As a member of the National Task Force to End Sexual and Domestic Violence, the Tahirih Justice Center joined colleague organizations in issuing this statement on the Administration’s termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for El Salvador. If expelled from the United States, many of the 200,000 individuals now protected by TPS will face grave danger and high levels of violence, including gender-based violence.

    This fact sheet provides information on the ways Kentucky’s current minimum marriage age laws put children at risk and the extent of Kentucky’s child marriage problem. The Tahirih Justice Center is working to end child marriage in Kentucky and across the country.

    This Tahirih Justice Center report explains that state and federal efforts to punish so-called “sanctuary” jurisdictions lead to various unintended, dangerous consequences to the detriment of survivors of violence and society as a whole. Tahirih urges lawmakers, policymakers, and the public to diligently educate themselves about these consequences when determining whether to support such efforts.

  • Amicus Brief Filed in Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Case on Texas’ SB4 Law

    The Tahirih Justice Center and partner organizations filed an amicus brief to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in the case challenging Texas Senate Bill No. 4 (SB4).

    This brief highlights the direct and severe impact that SB4 is already having and will continue to have on immigrant survivors of gender-based violence. The law firm of WilmerHale led the drafting.
