    The Tahirih Justice Center celebrates the passage of a new law in Georgia limiting marriage to adults age 18 or older, with a narrow exception only for 17-year-old minors that have been emancipated after a special proceeding before a juvenile court. The legislation also contains other key measures to prevent abuse and exploitation in the guise of marriage.

    This spring, the Tahirih Justice Center and a coalition of national organizations sent a survey to advocates and attorneys from across the U.S., learning that many immigrant victims of domestic and sexual violence are now too afraid to call the police or go to court to get help.   • Amicus Brief Filed in Eleventh Circuit Case on Forced Labor Complaint

    The Tahirih Justice Center, along with Human Trafficking Pro Bono Legal Center, Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking, Americans for Immigrant Justice, and ASISTA Immigration Assistance, filed an amicus brief in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

    This brief supports a group of civil immigrant detainees in their case against CoreCivic, Inc., a for-profit detention facility, that forced the plaintiffs to work without pay. The brief focuses on the protection the plaintiffs are entitled to under Trafficking Victims Protection Act and its reauthorizations.
