    In 2019, the United States signed “safe third country” agreements with Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. The agreements allow the United States to deny protections to asylum seekers, and remove them to any of these partner countries. A subsequent “safe third country” rule established procedures by which asylum seekers can be removed.     The Supreme Court ruled to allow ‘Remain in Mexico’ to remain in effect along the entire border as legal challenges against the policy continue. This ruling comes after two weeks full of whiplash decisions on the policy, as the Ninth Circuit decided to reinstate a block on ‘Remain in Mexico’, only to suspend it that same day to give the government time to seek a stay.
