Join Tahirih Justice Center for a special screening of Angelina Jolie Pitt’s newest film, Difret, on Monday, Nov. 2.
This film is based on the inspirational true story of a young Ethiopian girl and her tenacious lawyer. When 14-year-old Hirut is abducted in her village’s tradition of kidnapping women for marriage, she fights back — like so many of our clients at Tahirih.
After this special screening, Jeanne Smoot, Tahirih Senior Counsel on Policy and Strategy, will moderate a 15-minute panel discussion on the urgent issue of forced marriage with Difret Filmmaker Mehret Mandefro. She will be joined by Casey Swegman, Tahirih Forced Marriage Initiative Project Manager, and Lyric Thompson, International Center for Research on Women Senior Policy Manager and Girls Not Brides USA Co-Chair.
