You can help support the Tahirih Justice Center with activities you design yourself, and invite your family, friends and colleagues to join you in promoting human rights for women.

Objectives:

  1. To encourage open dialogue about the advancement of women and the plight of immigrant and refugee women.
  2. To explain the mission and work of the Center.
  3. To encourage each guest to support the Tahirih Justice Center by making a donation or paying an admission fee.

Step-by-step Process:

  1. Decide what kind of fundraiser would be suitable for you to organize, keeping in mind the TJC's Statement of Organizational Values and that all fundraisers should be conducted in a spirit of respect for people of all backgrounds. Please keep in mind that the event should be appropriate to the mission.
  2. Contact the TJC to inform the Development Department of your plans: (703) 575-0070, or email justice@tahirih.org
  3. Download all relevant materials made available on the website, specifically the sign-up sheet, volunteer/professional interest sheets, and country conditions research sheets, which are to be made available at the fundraiser for participants to become a part of the TJC network.
  4. Keep in touch - contact the Center if you need more materials, assistance, etc. Brochures and copies of the most recent newsletter can be made available for use if enough notice is given. Large amounts of these must be paid for.
  5. Follow up after the event - let the Center know about your successes, send in the sign-up sheet, and the donations!

Possible fundraising events:

  1. A public speaking event (if an honorarium is involved, a TJC staff member could possibly attend to give a keynote speech)
  2. A dinner, lunch, tea, dessert, or picnic
  3. Round table discussion
  4. Sponsor a movie night
  5. Work with a book club to read and discuss, Do They Hear You When You Cry, which prompted the creation of the Center.
  6. Organize a concert, car-wash, bake sale, walk-a-thon, theme night
  7. Present an evening of poetry and dramatic readings written by or about women
  8. Invite a group to pray for immigrant and refugee women
  9. Work with local women's groups - possible coordinate with them in organizing your fundraiser
  10. When a staff member is close to your town, an event could be organized in tandem with their visit
