Strategic Planning

Looking Forward

Proud of our successes, we remain challenged by the distance between the reality of the women we serve and our vision of the future. Every day, we see the profound needs of our clients and are contacted by immigrant women and girls from around the country who struggle to access legal services locally. We are determined to address their needs for legal representation and to ensure that long term systemic protections are achieved for women and girls fleeing gender-based violence.

To this end, in 2006, Tahirih’s Board and staff made a strategic and visionary decision to become a national organization and open field offices in different locations across the country. Through the replication of Tahirih’s award-winning model for providing pro bono legal services and through leveraging strategic partnerships with law firms in another city, we can efficiently provide high-quality legal services to a greater number of immigrant women and girls fleeing violence. In addition, national expansion will strengthen Tahirih’s unusual approach to public policy advocacy, which is informed by client voices and Tahirih’s experiences as a direct service provider.

Tahirih will open its first field office in Houston, Texas, in 2009. After we establish the Houston office, we plan to refine our expansion model and open additional field offices in locations around the country.

We do not take our expansion lightly; we have put great thought, planning and effort into making our transition to a national organization smooth and highly productive for our staff, partners and clients. We regularly conduct annual and three-year strategic plans to ensure that we are able to achieve our goals.
