Honor a “Good Fella” this Father’s Day
Dear Anne,
This Father’s Day, on June 19th, please join us and honor a “good fella” in your life—a father, grandfather, brother, husband or friend who encourages women’s equality—by making a donation in his name. So many “good fellas” play a critical role in advancing the status of women through their support, encouragement, and defense of women. Please join us in recognizing their important efforts!
Your gift will support our clients who, often with the support of a male friend or relative, find the courage to stand up to their abuser and demand justice. Women like Fauziya Kassindja, whose case I helped to litigate as a law student and who inspired me to found the Tahirih Justice Center. Fauziya’s case received a great deal of media attention because of the national precedent it set in establishing female genital mutilation (FGM) as a basis for asylum in the United States. What many do not know is that Fauziya’s father was her strongest protector and advocate, until his untimely death, which left Fauziya vulnerable to a forced marriage and the threat of FGM at the age of 17. Fauziya’s father’s faith in her potential and his encouragement gave her the strength she needed to enable her to endure the almost two years of imprisonment and long legal battle she faced in the United States before receiving justice.
The Tahirih Justice Center is inspired by the courage of Fauziya and women like her who were encouraged in their strength and resilience by the men in their lives.
There are “good fellas” in all of our lives, including Tahirih’s. Please take a moment this Father’s Day to honor the ones in your life and help a woman or girl reclaim their dignity and safety. Make a donation today in his name and we will send him an e-card recognizing your donation.
And, to all the “Good Fellas” out there, thank you!
Warm regards,
Layli Miller-Muro
Executive Director
