Since opening its doors in 1997, through direct services and referrals, Tahirih has assisted more than 11,000 women and children fleeing abuses such as domestic violence, rape, sexual assault, human trafficking, female genital mutilation, torture, “honor” crimes, and forced marriage. In addition to representing individual clients, Tahirih works to pass laws, develop regulations, transform policies, establish precedent and enhance public understanding so that systemic change will ensure the long-term protection of women and girls from violence.
